AAVE jumped about 8% after Aave Labs proposed moving the protocol's trademarks and intellectual property into a dedicated foundation. The foundation would hold the IP but keep no vote in Aave's governance, which stays with AAVE tokenholders. The news also coincided with a sharp intraday rally and renewed talk of a token burn mechanism.

AAVE rose about 8% on Friday, briefly touching $187.50, after Aave Labs released a proposal to put the protocol's intellectual property under foundation control. Buyers pushed the token above $182 during the session.

Aave Foundation Proposal Targets Protocol IP

According to Aave CEO Stani Kulechov, the plan would create a memberless Cayman Islands foundation company to hold the Aave trademark and related intellectual property for the protocol. The entity may also hold primary domains and IP rights assigned to service providers.

Phase one covers only incorporation and the appointment of an independent director and supervisor. Later phases would need further governance proposals before any trademark, domain or codebase transfer, with the DAO covering reasonable incorporation, legal, secretary and appointment fees.

According to Stani Kulechov, the goal is to hand Aave's IP to the DAO, adding it would strengthen the protocol by "unifying everything under one asset, AAVE". The proposal sits inside the broader Aave Will Win framework.

DAO Keeps Control Over Protocol Decisions

The foundation would get no vote, veto or advisory role in normal protocol governance. AAVE tokenholders keep deciding listings, parameter changes, budgets and providers, and the DAO can appoint or remove foundation directors through an Aave Improvement Proposal.

The DAO's say also covers major constitutional changes, key IP sales, restructuring and any future winding-up, while the foundation would publish quarterly reports on its assets, expenditures and legal proceedings. The move follows Aave V4's expansion on Base, where seven Coinbase-issued stock tokens now serve as collateral for USDC loans outside the United States.

Price Rally Builds Amid Governance Buzz

AAVE extended its climb after the announcement, moving from about $171 to an intraday high near $187.50, with short liquidations totaling about $350,000 across three exchanges in one hourly swing.

The token also featured in talks about Aavenomics 3.0, where Kulechov said a permanent AAVE burn mechanism is being discussed, though no formal proposal has been approved yet. The discussion follows recent SEC staff guidance saying buybacks are not an automatic or inherent part of a network's managerial activity under federal securities law.

Before any entity is created, the foundation proposal must pass Aave's governance process. If consensus forms, it would move to Snapshot and then an AIP covering incorporation costs, with later phases separately addressing transfers of trademarks, domains and the codebase.
