Anthropic is the only technology company left on a fall IPO calendar that once looked robust. Other AI infrastructure issuers have delayed listings as interest rates rise and shares of AI operators sell off.
Anthropic is pressing ahead with its initial public offering in the middle of next month, according to people familiar with the matter. The AI lab may make its prospectus public as early as late October, though those people cautioned that the plan and the dates are subject to change. Anthropic declined to comment.
The company is expected to begin marketing its shares to prospective investors during the week of November 9, one of the people said. Some investors believe its position at the center of the AI business could justify a potential $1.5 trillion valuation.
Other AI issuers step back
Other companies in the AI infrastructure and data center sectors have delayed listings, facing a rise in interest rates that has helped fuel a selloff in shares and bonds of AI operators such as CoreWeave.
Data center operator Switch and AI infrastructure provider Nscale have pushed their IPO plans back to later this year, people familiar with the matter said. Nscale's delay was partly driven by the need to address comments from SEC staff, one other person said. SoftBank-backed SB Energy has also postponed its listing, and South Korean AI chip startup Elice was among the latest to shelve its plans.
Oura's recent IPO added to the caution. It attracted little participation from long-only investors, a person familiar with the matter said, which raised concerns about the depth of institutional demand.
Large investors stay bullish on Anthropic
Despite the turbulence, many large investors remain bullish on Anthropic's prospects. They view it as one of the few opportunities to gain exposure to a technology sector that long-term investors cannot afford to ignore. Other issuers are also reluctant to compete with Anthropic for institutional investors' attention and capital, two of the people said.
