Berkshire Hathaway cut its Apple stake by roughly 75% since mid-2023 but still holds more Apple stock than any other position. Apple reports earnings on Nov. 2, its first call under new CEO John Ternus.

Berkshire Hathaway still owns 227.9 million Apple shares, its largest holding, even after selling hundreds of millions of shares. Warren Buffett spent the final years of his run as CEO selling the stock.

Apple still makes up 22% of Berkshire's portfolio

At the end of June, the period covered by Berkshire's latest regulatory filing, the stake was worth about $66 billion, roughly 22% of the company's total investment portfolio. Apple once made up roughly half of that portfolio.

Berkshire cut the position from about 915 million shares in mid-2023, a reduction of roughly 75%. Buffett said he was happy to have Apple as the largest holding, but not for it to be "as large as almost everything else combined."

The Motley Fool frames the trimming as basic diversification: a single large stock can drag down everything else during a rough stretch.

Berkshire put money into Alphabet instead

In the second quarter, Berkshire bought about $17 billion of Alphabet stock, including $10 billion directly from the company. Berkshire has not sold any Apple shares since the end of 2025.

Buffett has not soured on Apple. In a March CNBC interview, he said he sold it too soon and would buy a lot more at the right price.

Apple's results and what to watch next

In the fiscal third quarter, which ended June 27, Apple reported record revenue of $109.4 billion, up 16%. Services generated $30.7 billion in revenue at a gross margin of about 76%.

However, Apple guided for revenue growth of 9% to 11% in the September quarter, slower than the 16% in June. Buffett said he would add more only at a lower price, while the stock is near a record.

Apple reports on Nov. 2, and Berkshire's next 13F is due by Nov. 16. That filing will show whether Berkshire changed its Apple stake in the September quarter.
