Circle opened Circle Match to eligible Circle Mint customers, adding an hourly auction where minters of USDC can earn a rebate funded by redeemers. Fees are capped at Circle's Express redemption rate, and participants must prefund their orders.
Circle opened Circle Match to eligible Circle Mint customers on Oct. 22, giving institutions an hourly auction in which demand to acquire USDC can earn a rebate funded by institutions cashing out.
Minters set a floor, redeemers set a ceiling
Minters specify the minimum rebate they will accept, and redeemers set the maximum fee they will pay. Matched orders clear at one uniform fee, capped at Circle's Express redemption rate. Circle says the full fee currently goes to matched minters, subject to product terms and disclosed exceptions, with no separate spread retained by Circle.
Until now, minting earned no direct rebate inside Mint, according to Circle. Match is optional for redeemers, and Circle says ordinary redemptions through standard banking rails remain free, with settlement in up to two business days.
Circle also minted and redeemed more than $315 billion of USDC in the first half of 2026, the company says. The same account reports approximately $819 million in distribution and transaction costs against approximately $1.4 billion in revenue.
How the auction fills orders
Circle's documentation says the auction first chooses the fee that maximizes matched volume, then minimizes imbalance. If a tie remains, it picks the higher fee, which favors minters. The auction sets a service fee, not an exchange price, so USDC stays redeemable at one dollar less applicable fees.
Orders priced more competitively fill first, and orders exactly at the clearing fee share the remainder in proportion to their size. Unmatched amounts can roll into the next auction, fall back to ordinary Mint processing or be canceled. Orders have a $100 minimum and must be multiples of $100, and neither a match nor a particular rebate is guaranteed.
Prefunding comes before matching
Match requires balances before the auction, including on the mint side. Dollar wires convert automatically into segregated, restricted USDC held solely for Match, and that balance cannot be withdrawn to a blockchain address. A filled mint order delivers spendable USDC, plus its rebate, to the customer's ordinary Mint wallet.
Access requires Circle approval and may vary by jurisdiction. Mint itself serves institutions, not individuals.
