A wallet holding nearly 4,500 BTC that sat untouched for more than four years moved its entire balance in a single transaction on Sept. 25, 2026. The transfer was worth an estimated $379 million to $382 million, but the coins remained unspent at the destination address hours later, leaving open whether the move was a sale.
A dormant whale address sent 4,499.99987779 BTC to a single destination in a transaction confirmed at 02:30:04 UTC on Sept. 25, 2026. The output was still unspent when checked again at 13:33 UTC, leaving the full balance visible at one address after the move.
Using Coinbase's BTC/USD low and high of $84,152.88 and $84,882.18 during the hour that included confirmation, the output carried an estimated value of $379 million to $382 million. The transaction combined eight outputs from the source address into one output at the destination, paying 1,303 satoshis as a network fee.
A balance untouched since 2022
The transaction's largest input, 4,499.99986261 BTC, was received on April 21, 2022, and had not moved for more than four years before Thursday's transfer. Yet the address was not entirely dormant in that stretch.
Its transaction history shows seven later deposits, each worth only a few hundred satoshis, arriving between Dec. 30, 2024, and Sept. 11, 2026. Combined, those small payments totaled 2,821 satoshis (0.00002821 BTC), next to the dormant principal that moved alongside them.
No evidence the coins were sold
The blockchain record shows that at the 13:33 UTC snapshot, the receiving address held one confirmed incoming output totaling 4,499.99987779 BTC, no spent output, and no mempool transaction. The records confirm an on-chain transfer, but they do not identify who controls the destination, and they do not establish that the address belongs to an exchange or that the coins were sold.
A Bitcoin transfer can precede a sale, a change in beneficial ownership, or an off-chain trade, but this transaction alone confirms none of them. Any claim about where the coins now sit needs a fresh, time-stamped check of the address, and any claim about a trade needs separate evidence beyond the blockchain record itself.
