Iran's army says its forces stand ready for any renewed U.S. attack, after President Donald Trump said he rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end the fighting. Army chief Amir Hatami called the war a critical, decisive stage and warned that Tehran will not let foreign powers use the waterway while Iran itself cannot trade.
Iran's armed forces are fully prepared for confrontation, army spokesperson Mohammad Akraminia told state media on Sunday. He warned that the United States would suffer greater damage if it launched another attack on the country. The statement follows Trump's rejection of an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and halt the fighting.
Iranian Army Commander-in-Chief Amir Hatami said the war has reached a critical and decisive stage. He added that Tehran would not accept a situation where it cannot trade through the region's strategic waterways while foreign powers continue to use them.
According to Reuters: "The Strait of Hormuz is the strait of our dignity and honour", Hatami said, adding that Iran's enemies would not be allowed to use the chokepoint while the Iranian people are deprived of trade.
