Lucid and Bolt announced a partnership to deploy 25,000 self-driving Lucid EVs across Bolt's European ride-hailing network, adding to the 20,000 robotaxis Lucid already committed to Uber and Nuro. The catch: Lucid delayed the platform tied to the Bolt deal, so the new commitments will take years to turn into real orders.

Bolt deal adds to Lucid's robotaxi push

Lucid and Bolt, Europe's largest shared-mobility platform, announced a partnership to put 25,000 self-driving Lucid EVs onto Bolt's network. Bolt says its platform serves over 200 million customers and 4.5 million drivers and couriers across 50 countries, and it aims to put 100,000 autonomous vehicles on the platform by 2035.

According to Motley Fool, Lucid CEO Silvio Napoli said: "Shared autonomous mobility offers the perfect opportunity to extend our unique technology beyond consumer vehicles."

The Bolt agreement builds on an earlier deal. In July 2025, Lucid partnered with Uber Technologies and Nuro to deploy 20,000 Lucid Gravity robotaxis equipped with Nuro Driver, starting this year and expanding into a second city in 2027. Together, the two partnerships bring Lucid's robotaxi commitments to 45,000 units. The Uber deal covers the U.S., while Bolt opens a separate market in Europe.

Why Uber welcomes the competition

For Uber, spreading autonomous-vehicle partnerships across multiple companies guards against a single dominant player. If Alphabet's Waymo or Tesla were to gain a dominating share of AV ride-hailing, either company could build its own ride-hailing business and cut Uber out as a direct competitor. The source notes this dynamic is already playing out with Waymo.

The delay behind the catch

Lucid delayed its midsize platform and the Cosmos model, which was supposed to launch before the end of 2026, pushing the timeline back to the second half of 2027. That delay came as Lucid pursued an operational reset, hiring AlixPartners to help conserve cash and improve operations after laying off 18% of its workforce in June.

Because the Cosmos delay pushes back the platform tied to the Bolt deal, the real orders and demand behind these robotaxi announcements will land well after that timeline slips. Nobody has fully solved self-driving vehicles at scale, so the near-term impact on Lucid's production volumes stays limited.
