Meta Platforms announced its Meta Enterprise Platform on Monday, aiming to sell its Muse AI agent and related tools to businesses. MongoDB chief executive Chirantan "CJ" Desai is leaving to lead the effort, reporting directly to Mark Zuckerberg, as Meta looks beyond advertising for revenue.
Meta wants a share of the software budgets that keep businesses running, not just their ad dollars. The company announced its Meta Enterprise Platform on Monday, with plans to bring its Muse agent and related tools to enterprise customers.
A new hire signals the shift
Chirantan "CJ" Desai, MongoDB's chief executive, is leaving that role to lead Meta's enterprise push, reporting directly to Mark Zuckerberg. Today, Meta gets essentially all of its revenue from advertising. Shareholders have been asking how the company will earn back as much as $145 billion in capital spending this year, and the enterprise platform opens a potential new revenue source. Meta's announcement does not disclose enterprise pricing, launch customers, or a detailed rollout schedule.
Meta already has a foothold with businesses
Meta Business Agent, already used by more than 1 million businesses on WhatsApp and Messenger, gives the company an existing base to build from. Businesses that already pay Meta to reach customers may also consider tools that answer customer questions or assist employees with follow-up work.
Pricing rivals are already in the market
Microsoft lists its enterprise Microsoft 365 Copilot at $30 per user per month, paid yearly, requiring a separate qualifying Microsoft 365 license, and includes Copilot Chat at no additional charge with eligible subscriptions. Salesforce's Agentforce offers usage-based pricing at $500 per 100,000 usage credits, or flat-fee access from $125 per user per month. Meta will also face fresh competition from OpenAI, which has launched its own rival to Muse.
Meta's earlier corporate-communication product, Workplace, closed in May, after the company announced a phased shutdown two years earlier. The new enterprise initiative arrives just months after that exit.
