Nvidia will invest $3 billion in Meta's new equity offering and expand their partnership around Meta's Muse models. The Motley Fool's Jeremy Bowman argues the deal fits a pattern of Nvidia tying customers and suppliers closer through investments.

Nvidia and Meta announced on Tuesday morning that they will expand their partnership around Muse and the Muse family of models, and that Nvidia will invest $3 billion in Meta's new equity offering. The announcement came days after Meta said it planned to raise $97.5 billion to fund its AI infrastructure build-out.

Under the collaboration, Meta will expand Vera Rubin and Vera CPU deployment to boost performance and scale workloads. Nvidia said the growth of the new Meta Muse personal AI agent led to the expanded partnership.

What the deal gives each company

For Meta, the investment helps secure access to the chips and hardware it needs as it expands its AI capabilities and builds new data centers. Bowman writes that Nvidia continues to dominate the market for AI chips, which makes a close relationship important for companies like Meta.

On Nvidia's side, the article describes the deal as the latest example of bringing customers, suppliers and other stakeholders into its fold through investments, partnerships and contractual commitments. The stakes also give Nvidia exposure to companies like Meta, so their success is Nvidia's success.

Nvidia's growing list of stakes

As of the end of the second quarter, Nvidia already owned stakes in Intel, SpaceX, CoreWeave, Nebius, Coherent, Synopsys, Nokia and Generate Biomedics. It has also taken stakes in OpenAI and Anthropic, and agreed to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI as it deploys at least 10 gigawatts of AI data centers using Nvidia systems.

Competition remains. Advanced Micro Devices has followed a similar playbook to a smaller degree and announced a $1 billion investment in Meta shortly after Nvidia's $3 billion commitment. Bowman nonetheless expects Nvidia's leadership to be difficult to unseat, and he says more deals like the Meta one are likely as AI infrastructure spenders look for new sources of capital.
