PayPal's buyout is dead. The two companies that had expressed interest in acquiring the payments company recently abandoned their buyout plans, according to The Motley Fool's Matt Frankel, CFP®.

PayPal shares fell 3.04% to $54.96, a decline of $1.72, based on the stock's morning price on Sept. 3, 2026.

Frankel, a Certified Financial Planner and contributing analyst at The Motley Fool, published a video on Sept. 6, 2026, saying he would explain what the collapsed deal means for PayPal's stock and how he plans to handle his own PayPal shares now that no acquirer remains.
