Ripple has added former Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan to the Institutional Summit opening Swell 2026. The invitation-only summit runs October 27, ahead of the main Swell and XRPL Apex conference at The Shed in Manhattan through October 29.

Ripple announced on Sept. 4 that Raghuram Rajan, former governor of the Reserve Bank of India, will join the Institutional Summit opening Swell week on Oct. 27. The invitation-only gathering precedes the wider conference program, which runs through Oct. 29.

Swell and XRPL Apex merge for the first time

Swell 2026 takes place at The Shed in New York City, and Ripple is combining the event with its developer-focused XRPL Apex conference for the first time. The organizers expect more than 1,500 attendees, 75 speakers and 50 sessions across three stages, though those figures are projections that may change before October.

Ripple has not disclosed Rajan's discussion topic, session time or appearance format. The event website lists him as a speaker but does not indicate whether he will deliver a keynote, join a panel or take part in a moderated discussion.

Rajan brings a central banking and Fed policy background

Rajan led the Reserve Bank of India from September 2013 until September 2016 and previously served as chief economist of the International Monetary Fund. He is currently the Katherine Dusak Miller Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

He also co-leads the Federal Reserve's Balance Sheet Policy task force alongside Harvard professors Karen Dynan and Jeremy Stein, a group the Federal Reserve established to examine the costs, benefits and institutional consequences of its current balance sheet regime. Rajan's task force role does not make him a Federal Reserve official, and no official source has connected that work with his Swell appearance. Ripple's announcement also does not indicate that Rajan is advising the company, endorsing XRP or supporting any of its products.

A growing speaker roster

The combined program will also feature actor and Water.org co-founder Matt Damon, who Ripple previously named as a keynote speaker. Other listed participants include Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, President Monica Long, CTO Emeritus David Schwartz, Bullish CEO Tom Farley, Tradeweb CEO Billy Hult and Nasdaq Chair and CEO Adena Friedman.

Standard registration for Swell 2026 runs through Oct. 5, followed by a final registration period ending Oct. 20. Access to the Institutional Summit requires a separate invitation request. Ripple still needs to publish the full conference agenda, including Rajan's session details.
