Robinhood Chain's block production halted for more than 14 minutes on Friday, stopping the network from processing transactions during a surge in tokenized stock trading. The outage hit as tokenized stockholders on the chain doubled in a month, while a separate report describes scam tokens and falling trading volumes dogging the blockchain since its July launch.

Robinhood Chain went dark for new transactions on Friday after block production stopped for more than 14 minutes, leaving the network unable to move tokens or process smart contract calls. The disruption struck during a stretch of heavy activity tied to tokenized stock trading on the chain.

Blocks stall, then resume intermittently

Data from the Blockscout explorer showed no new blocks were produced during the outage, though pending transactions kept appearing under the same block number, which blockchain experts said pointed to network-wide block generation being suspended. Block production later resumed intermittently, with the explorer showing a new block timestamped at 21:06 (UTC+8). Robinhood had not made a public statement on the cause by the time of reporting.

Tokenized stock trading boom preceded the halt

The outage came as tokenized equities on Robinhood Chain, an Ethereum Layer 2 network, were seeing explosive growth. CryptoRank data cited by CoinGape showed the number of tokenized stockholders grew from about 1 million to 2 million in August alone. Around 95% of all tokenized stock holders sit on three chains — Robinhood Chain, BNB Chain and Solana — with Robinhood Chain accounting for about 35% of the market as of the end of July. Robinhood Markets stock also slid during the outage, trading around $120 in premarket, down 3.78%, as strong US jobs data stoked Fed rate-hike bets.

Scam tokens and slowing volumes since launch

Separately, Crypto Briefing reported that Robinhood Chain has faced scrutiny over scam tokens and a steep drop in trading activity since its July 1, 2026 launch. The network recorded roughly $878 million in decentralized-exchange volume within its first 24 hours, and cumulative volume reached $25 billion by late August — but Crypto Briefing noted that total was concentrated in the days right after launch, not spread evenly over time. The outlet also reported that Robinhood's crypto trading revenue fell 38% year-over-year in the first half of 2026, which the company attributed to broader market conditions.

Robinhood has yet to disclose what caused Friday's halt or when full recovery would be complete.
