Russia will send senior military officials and diplomats, including Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, to talks with the United States and Ukraine in Abu Dhabi. The meeting is the first of its kind since February.
Russia's delegation to the trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi will include senior military officials and diplomats, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Interfax. The meeting, meant to discuss ending Moscow's war against Ukraine, is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
Kremlin aide Vladimir Medinsky will again serve as chief negotiator. Ryabkov joins for the first time, along with Yuri Zhigarlovsky, a senior General Staff officer, according to the report. Ryabkov oversees Russia's relations with North and South America and handles arms control, non-proliferation and issues tied to Iran's nuclear programme, while Zhigarlovsky is a deputy chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff.
Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin and military intelligence chief Igor Kostyukov also return from past missions, the report said.
All delegation members met Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday at a Security Council meeting partly devoted to the talks. In the televised portion, Putin thanked the United Arab Emirates for hosting the negotiations. Most of the session took place behind closed doors.
US negotiators have been seeking a breakthrough in the conflict before winter sets in. The last US-mediated peace talks took place in February, before the United States and Israel launched a war against Iran.
