Silver is outperforming gold as the Gold/Silver ratio rolls over from resistance, with silver trading near its own breakout trigger while gold lags behind on momentum. ActionForex frames three levels that will show whether silver is genuinely leading gold or simply outrunning it.
Both metals are benefiting from a weaker dollar. Silver trades around $66.89, above its four-hour 55 EMA at $66.34. Gold sits near $4,411.26, below its own four-hour 55 EMA at $4,433.28. The gap has been building for roughly two months in the Gold/Silver ratio, and it has now turned lower again after another rejection from descending resistance.
The dollar's weakness explains why both metals can rise together, but it doesn't explain why silver keeps doing better. Silver's industrial demand differs from gold's largely monetary role, and its smaller market can produce sharper relative moves once momentum builds. The clearer evidence, though, sits in the ratio itself, which has been falling since July.
The Ratio Rejects Resistance Again
The Gold/Silver ratio fell to 64.92 in late August before rebounding to 67.64. That recovery ran into descending resistance and has now rolled over to around 65.90. The ratio remains below its four-hour 55 EMA at 66.79, with MACD negative and RSI near 34.70.
Even so, the reversal is not yet confirmed. The next test is the late-August low at 64.92; a decisive break below it would signal that silver's relative strength is accelerating rather than simply pausing.
Silver Nears Its Trigger, Gold Lags
Silver is approaching $67.47, the level that capped its previous rebound and now marks the clearest breakout point. Its recovery from $63.28 has carried price back above the 55 EMA, with MACD at roughly 0.09 against a 0.02 signal line and RSI near 56.81. A clean break of 67.47 would open the way toward 71.16, a move ActionForex says would extend from a solid base: the recent correction held support around 62.54–62.92, overlapping the 50% retracement of the rise from 54.78 to 71.16.
Gold has not reached the same point. Its rebound from $4,282.23 stalled at $4,510.90, and price has since slipped back below the 55 EMA. Gold's RSI sits near a neutral 49.85 while MACD stays slightly negative, showing far less momentum than silver. A firm break of 4,510.90 would suggest gold's decline from 4,697.07 completed at 4,282.23 and would reopen a retest of that high.
Three Levels Will Decide the Story
ActionForex frames the setup around three thresholds: silver's break of 67.47, the ratio's break of 64.92, and gold's break of 4,510.90. If silver clears its trigger and the ratio extends lower while gold eventually follows through 4,510.90, silver's move would count as an early tell for a broader precious-metals rebound. If gold stays capped instead, the analysis says silver's run would still be powerful, but it would mark a silver-specific trend rather than a signal for gold. Silver sits closer to its own breakout; whether it is actually leading gold will only become clear once gold clears its own level.
