Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko has floated an idea to mint new SOL against tokenized collateral, with Solana's validators pricing that collateral. Profits from the activity would be taxed to boost network revenue. The concept is an early idea shared on social media, not a formal governance proposal.

Anatoly Yakovenko, known as Toly, shared the concept in a post on X on October 24, 2026. He called it a validator stake-weighted oracle, and it would use Solana's own validators as price referees for tokenized collateral.

How the validator oracle would work

An oracle tells a blockchain what something is worth in the outside world. Most oracles today run on dedicated networks, but Toly's twist is to give that job to the operators who already process transactions and secure the chain.

Under the "stake-weighted" design, a validator's input would count in proportion to how much SOL is staked with it. Once validators agree on what a piece of tokenized collateral is worth, the system would mint new SOL against it. The idea is that this minted SOL helps facilitate transactions on the network.

Then comes the revenue angle. Profits generated through that activity would be taxed, with the goal of boosting network revenue.

Timing after the Alpenglow upgrade

The proposal arrives days after Solana's Alpenglow upgrade went live on October 21, 2026. That upgrade improved transaction finality to approximately 150 milliseconds and streamlined how validators submit their vote transactions.

Price data for tokenized assets currently comes from oracle networks such as Pyth and RedStone. A validator-run oracle would not necessarily replace them, but it would offer a native alternative tied to Solana's own security model.

An idea without a timeline

Toly's post sketched the basic mechanics without naming specific collateral tokens or DeFi platforms. There is no governance vote scheduled and no implementation timeline, and the concept has not yet surfaced in Solana's formal governance discussions or technical forums.

Minting new SOL would also change the supply picture. Any version of this would need to convince holders that new issuance is safely backed and properly priced, and putting validators in charge of pricing raises questions about incentives and the risk of manipulation by large stakers.
