The Starknet Foundation has launched Bramble, a self-custody wallet for swapping, storing and shielding crypto on Starknet. It is available only as a Chrome extension for now. Shielding has defined limits, and it does not by itself establish compatibility with shadow-account applications.
The Starknet Foundation launched Bramble on Oct. 20, a self-custody wallet that lets users swap, store and shield crypto on Starknet. The team says the wallet is only available as a Chrome extension for now.
The wallet sits in Chrome's side panel, keeping balances and transaction reviews beside the application a user has open. It gives users a Foundation-built option for an existing privacy system: Starknet introduced STRK20 in June, and its rollout announcement named Ready X and Xverse as wallets offering shielding and private swaps.
How STRK20 shielding works in Bramble
According to Bramble's documentation, users explicitly move public funds into the STRK20 privacy pool, where they become encrypted notes held separately from the ordinary wallet balance. Private transfers conceal the amount and counterparty from public observers.
That privacy has limits. Starknet's compliance documentation says deposits expose the depositor's address and describes a viewing-key mechanism that lets a designated auditor trace funds in response to a lawful request.
Bramble also supports account abstraction through programmable smart contract accounts. Its guide lists OpenZeppelin and Argent account contracts, Ledger hardware signing and Argent multisig accounts, where a specified number of participants must sign a transaction. New users set a local password, back up a recovery phrase and fund their account before deploying it.
Shielding and shadow accounts are different
Starknet's shadow accounts give each user and application a separate, persistent identity that hides the link to the user's main wallet. According to the network's integration guide, the shadow account's balances, calls and protocol positions remain public.
That guide specifies Wallet API 0.10.4 and wallet support for STRK20 shadow-account methods. Bramble's launch documentation describes balance shielding but does not specify support for those methods or session keys. For applications using shadow accounts, wallet-level shielding alone does not establish compatibility.
