Strategy's common shares gained 77.4% in a comparison Michael Saylor highlighted, ahead of four preferred stocks that returned between 22.9% and 38.6%. Saylor credited buybacks with supporting the company's securities. Common shareholders vote Oct. 28 on daily dividend payments.
Strategy's common stock gained 77.4%, outpacing four of its preferred stocks in a comparison Michael Saylor shared on X on Oct. 24. Saylor is executive chairman of Strategy Inc. (Nasdaq: MSTR), the largest bitcoin treasury company. He linked the results to an approach that combines buybacks with management of the entire capital structure.
Preferred stocks return 22.9% to 38.6%
The chart Saylor posted shows dividend-inclusive returns for four perpetual preferred stocks. STRC returned 38.6%, STRD gained 35%, STRK reached 32.6% and STRF returned 22.9%.
The measurement period runs from June 26 through Oct. 23 at 4 p.m. Eastern time. Returns include dividends counted on their ex-dividend dates and assume those payments were not reinvested.
According to Saylor: "Programmatic $STRC buybacks have helped strengthen our credit markets and support $MSTR."
STRC repurchases reach $385.5 million over two weeks
Strategy adopted its Digital Credit Capital Framework on June 29. It combines reserve policies, dividend management, securities repurchases and potential bitcoin sales. The framework initially authorized up to $1 billion in preferred-stock repurchases and a separate $1 billion common-stock program.
Buybacks continued in October. Strategy spent $192.4 million on STRC shares during Oct. 5-11, and another $193.1 million during Oct. 12-18, bringing two weeks of repurchases to $385.5 million. The company also expanded its preferred-stock repurchase authorization to $3 billion, leaving approximately $1.16 billion available.
In the Oct. 12-18 week, Strategy purchased 267 BTC for $22.1 million, lifting its holdings to 848,517 BTC.
Daily dividend proposal goes to a vote
Strategy also wants to pay dividend distributions more frequently across the four preferred stocks. Under the proposal, every calendar day would become a record date, with payments generally following the next business day. The amendments would preserve regular dividend rates and total obligations.
Common shareholders are scheduled to vote Oct. 28. If the proposal passes, STRC's first daily record date would be Nov. 1, with payment on Nov. 2. For STRF, STRK and STRD, the corresponding dates would be Jan. 1 and Jan. 4, 2027.
