Zcash surged from roughly $16 in 2024 to above $1,000 in early September 2026, a gain of more than 6,300%. The rally followed Grayscale's launch of ZCSH, the first US spot Zcash ETF on August 25, 2026, and it briefly pushed ZEC's market cap above Dogecoin's.

Zcash has surged from roughly $16 during its 2024 lows to above $1,000 in early September 2026. That gain exceeds 6,300% and pushed its market capitalization to nearly $17 billion. The rally briefly put ZEC's market cap above Dogecoin's, a coin with roughly ten times the name recognition.

Grayscale's ETF triggers the rally

The single biggest catalyst was Grayscale's launch of ZCSH, the first US spot Zcash ETF, on August 25, 2026. The product gave institutional investors a regulated vehicle to gain exposure to ZEC without touching the token directly, and the market reacted immediately.

ZEC then hit an all-time high range between $1,025 and $1,046 in the days following the ETF debut, eclipsing its previous peaks from the 2017-2018 speculative mania. Barry Silbert, whose Digital Currency Group is Grayscale's parent company, has been a longtime Zcash advocate, and Naval Ravikant has also been cited among endorsers helping drive momentum around the token.

Shielded transactions point to real demand

Zcash launched in 2016 with Bitcoin-like transactions plus optional privacy features that shield sender, receiver, and amount details from public view. Roughly 30% of Zcash's total supply now sits in its shielded pool, with shielded transactions accounting for the majority of network activity.

That marks a shift from earlier years, when most ZEC transactions were transparent and critics argued the privacy features were largely decorative. The growing share of shielded usage suggests actual demand for private transactions is rising, not just speculative demand for the token.

A supply structure echoing Bitcoin's 2013 run

Analysts have drawn parallels between Zcash's current trajectory and Bitcoin's early rise in 2013, when BTC went from roughly $13 to over $1,100 in a single year. Zcash shares Bitcoin's fixed supply cap of 21 million coins, though it historically allocated a portion of block rewards to a development fund, a structure purists criticized as a tax on miners.

Recent network upgrades have addressed some of those concerns and patched previous vulnerabilities, helping clean up the investment case. Even so, the $17 billion market cap still places Zcash well below the top ten cryptocurrencies by valuation.
